Things GOD Can’t Do | LAWS MADE BY GOD

Things GOD Can’t Do

Many Christians believe that God can do anything. Although BIBLE states that God is Omnipotent (all powerful), there are thing that God chooses not to do because of his NATURE (CHARACTER). Below is the list of things that BIBLE states that God can’t do (impossible to do). The list is not exhaustive but contains the major themes.

“That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie” – Hebrews 6:18

Once God gives his word he will not take it back. The major implication of this can be even seen today:

In Genesis 1:26-28 during creation of the world God gave control/dominion over earth’s ecology (fish of the sea, and the fowl of the air, over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.) to man. This is reemphasised in Psalms 115:16 (The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s: but the earth hath he given to the children of men).

Even though God gave control over earth ecology over to man but God still controls the working laws of the earth. To understand this more, let me give an example after creation God will able to alter lifespan of man (Gen 6:3) and speech of man (Gen 11:7).

As an illustration consider any sport like football, tennis, cricket,.. etc. The administrators have control to change the rules of game which may favour some individuals or teams. But still players ultimately control winning or losing. The administrator in this illustration is God he can change the laws of the earth but what ultimately happens on the earth is dictated by the actions of man or players in illustration.  That is the reason why God always needs a man say Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, David….etc to get his will done on earth.

This is reason why God cannot stop bad things in the world like wars, terrorism, human traffic,…etc. He needs a person who can stand and his power can flow through to stop them.

My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips. Psalms 89:34

Once God gives a promise, he will not break that promise in any circumstance. God made a promise  to Abraham in Genesis 17:8 and even though Israel rebelled many times in the wilderness still God kept his promise and gave them possession of Canaan (Joshua 21:43). Abraham believed in God and was faithful for 25 years for a son but God was faithful to word given to Abraham for many centuries.

God also gave us many promises and we should believe he will keep his promise and we can rest in his peace. God will never leave you or forsake you and your body is the dwelling place of God in spirit (For he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee – Hebrews 13:5, In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit  – Ephesians 2:22).

Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy,  that it cannot hear:  But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.  Isaiah 59:1-2

God is holy and therefore he can’t stand sin. Sin has become a barrier between mankind and God. God has called man many times in Old Testament to turn away from sin and come to him (Joel 2:12).But man was sold under sin (Romans 7:14). Therefore God sent his son in form of flesh to condemn sin in flesh (Romans 8:3) and cleanse our conscience (Hebrews 9:14) with his blood and broke down the wall that sin has created between man and God (Ephesians 2:14).

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. Psalm 51:17

God never reject a broken heart. When Jonah preached to Ninevah that their city will be overthrown in forty days (Jonah 3:4), people of city fasted and repented (Jonah 3:5) then God relented from disaster (Jonah 3:10).  So when we repent God forgives our sins (1 John 1:9)

Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. Psalm 121:4

Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.  Isaiah 40:28

God can’t get tired and doesn’t need to sleep, he is always working (John 5:17).  So be confident that God is always working to solve your problems and working in your to change you even though you can’t see it. (Philippians 1:6).Jacob thought his son Joseph was dead ( Genesis 37:33-34) but God was with Joseph and made him ruler over Egypt (Genesis 45:8)

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. Genesis 1:26-28

And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. Genesis 6:3

Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. Genesis 11:7

And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God. Genesis 17:8

And the Lord gave unto Israel all the land which he sware to give unto their fathers; and they possessed it, and dwelt therein. Joshua 21:43

For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. Romans 7:14

For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: Romans 8:3

How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? Hebrews 9:14

For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Ephesians 2:14

And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown. Jonah 3:4

So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them Jonah 3:5

And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not. Jonah 3:10

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work. John 5:17

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: Philippians 1:6

Then he examined it and said, “It is my son’s tunic. A wild beast has devoured him; Joseph has surely been torn to pieces! And Jacob rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his son many days. Genesis 37:33-34

So now it wasn’t you who sent me here, but God, and he has made me a father to Pharaoh, lord of all his house, and ruler over all the land of Egypt. Genesis 45:8
